How often should I get my carpets cleaned?
The number of times your carpets should be cleaned every year should be equal to the number of people who live in your house. So, if two people live in your home, you should have two cleanings a year.
How Long Will It Take To Dry?
We generally like to clean carpet from 08:00-12:00 in the morning – this gives the carpet time to dry before you get home from work. Upholstery dries a bit faster, so if we have an upholstery job (with no carpet) we tend to do them in the afternoon. The actual drying process depends on a few factors:
1) How humid is it today? We have a lot of humidity here on the island. We like to leave the windows open if we can. Of course, if you live next door to a construction zone and the wind pushes the red dirt into your house daily, or your neighborhood has had a few breakins recently, or it’s more humid with the windows open than closed – you’ll want to close it up, but you may want to turn on the A/C and overhead fans to help the drying process. Dehumidifiers help as well…
2) How dirty was the carpet/upholstery? We often have to go over specific areas more; the more we have to “hit” those specific areas, the wetter those areas will be…
I’ve seen you guys cleaning our neighbors and it appears you have a different wand than other companies I’ve seen. What type of wand is it and why do you use it?
We use the “Zipperwand”. Dave spotted the zipperwand online when researching ways of upgrading equipment – it appeared to be a way of cleaning the carpet better than a regular wand with much less wear and tear on the operator. Turns out, it really is a better wand! It has suction on the front and back of the face, so it extracts the dirty water in both directions (while pushing and while pulling); and, when doing the dry strokes, it sucks WAY more than the typical wand – dry times are twice that of a normal wand and much more of the dirt is being extracted from the carpet. The zipperwand also allows for more steam/water pressure to be pushed down the line so we can really push everything to the surface (and the incredible suction we just spoke of can suck it all up). Dave’s favorite happy spot of this new “special weapon” is the window about 4 inches above the head on the suction line – he can watch that window as he’s cleaning and see when he’s hit dirt (that may not be visible on the surface) and he can also see how much water is being extracted (while drying).
Did you guys get a new engine?
You bet we did – we needed a machine that would push enough pressure, provide enough suction and produce enough heat to really take advantage of the zipperwand. They put it together from scratch at the factory and sent it here to Maui – and it is a thing of beauty…
What is your pricing for carpet cleaning?
$.31 per square foot cleaned with a $125 minimum charge.
We say square foot cleaned because often you will have a 2,400 square foot house with a lot of furniture that we have to work around – we will measure the areas to be cleaned – often the 2,400 square foot house will only have 1,200 square foot worth of carpet to be cleaned.
The $125 minimum charge is the equivalent of 387 square feet cleaned ($120) plus state tax ($5) – so any job with less than 387 square feet of carpet will be charged $125…
What is your pricing for upholstery cleaning?
This is really a case by case basis. When you call us for upholstery cleaning the first thing we will ask you to do is to send us a picture of the upholstery to be cleaned for a better estimate. What we can tell you are the average prices. Typically a love seat (2 cushion couch) will run you $85, a standard sized couch (3 cushion) $120, and a sectional couch (5 cushion) $200 – this all depends on how dirty it is and of course the size of the cushions…
Table chairs, lounge chairs and the like – really, sending us a photo is the best way to get an accurate estimate…
Cars/Trucks/Etc – honestly, we don’t want to do your vehicle. Too many surfaces and we simply do not charge enough for the time taken to do a job we are proud of… Please do not call us to clean your vehicle…
Why is your pricing so much more affordable?
For starters, we own our truck, machine, every piece of gear and everything at our warehouse outright – we don’t owe anyone anything.
Secondly, we have brand new fantastic gear that makes it much easier and faster for us to clean your carpet and upholstery.
Lastly, we are local. Anna’s parents ran this company from 1979 until they decided to retire a few years back. Dave’s parents (gunsmiths) ran “Hakes Barrel Works” over on Wili Pa Loop in Wailuku for YEARS before they retired… Anna, Dave and their six kids were all grown here, not flown here and we practice Aloha in all we do. One part of our Aloha Spirit is providing an affordable service for you… our neighbors… our extended ohana…
